I guess its official now, she said "She's in and she's in to win". Less than a week ago Clinton wouldn't even hint to the possibility.
So it bothers me a little to be faced with the reality of the way the media sometimes views Black Americans in watching what they say or do, very unintentionally, as Obama prepares for a go at the Presidency and the media eats up the fact that he and Clinton are possibles.
For instance, this morning a local station interviewed a Black actor who "played" president for insight on the election. OK, so a Black has never held the seat, could not a Black Senator or other politician of color have done an insightful interview about the upcoming campaign? I listened to several minutes of talk about how different Blacks have "played" president on TV, who did well, sound bites, the whole nine. It just seemed a bit shallow of a news peg for the morning show. I don't think it was a matter of trying to belittle the run, it was just a way of thinking.
Then there are the cartoons. Adding his to the other presidential statues with a cute peg from Hillary, fine, but giving him monkey looking attributes.
Actually several of the political cartoons are distasteful. But, in part, that's politics. Will we tend to be more sensitive that it's a Black candidate or that it's a woman running when candidates routinely get beat up and ridiculed across the board?
