If you browse the forums, you see profanity being used in almost every thread. I'll push the envelope and say at in least 90% of them. What is the purpose of using profanity? Does it help you convey your point any better? Is it because you have a limited vocabulary? Is it because it makes you feel "bigger" than you really are(intimidation factor)? Can you hold a decent conversation without using profane words? Can you go a day without cursing? Better yet, can you eliminate profanity entirely from your speech for the rest of your life?
Can anybody tell me?
What's your take on profanity?

WELL HALLELUJAH...
PRAISE THE LORD!!!
It seems as if someone has been reading my mind. LOL
I don't curse, I don't like to hear it and it bothers me when I read them in a post. I try to skip over the word(s), because it bothers my spirit. This is not just because I'm saved either, because I've never been a big fan of profanity. I have never heard my mother curse and nobody cursed around her and people honored her for that, because she wasn't saved. I don't care for profanity and would not lose any sleep if it was no longer used. As a matter of fact, I would be throwing a celebration party!!! Some people are so use to cursing that they don't even realize that they are doing it. I can't wait to read the reasons why. It's funny this post has been up and I'm the first one to respond. As soon as I saw the title, I knew that I had something to say. Now, out of all of these thousandths of members, I know that C and I can't be the only ones that have something to say! I don't believe nobody's feelings have been hurt...so what's going on???
Everybody's good at throwing their 2 cents in when it comes to everything else...I just want to know, "WHERE ARE ALL OF THE PENNIES NOW???"

People cuss around me all the time. It's really a preference with people. I've learned myself that cussing is a way to convey your point when you don't have anything significant to say. Or you don't have a better way yto say it. Have a said a few choice words? Yes. Does that make me ignorant? No. You don't HAVE to cuss. But it's a form of expression and some people just feel good to let out a good "f" word sometimes. [or whichever one makes you feel good in the midsat of frustration etc.]

I had to laugh at your comments...I apologize because I believe you were being serious!!!
If people use curse words because they don't have anything significant to say, then to me that means that they have nothing to say. You don't have to be an ignorant person to use curse words, it's just that people sound ignorant when they use curse words. There are always other words to say. Maybe curse words are the only things people can think of at that time to say, well maybe they should hold their peace until they think of something else to say. Our vocabulary is only limited because we choose not to expand it.
I don't like to hear curse words used in my presence either. It is very disrespectful. In the word of God, it says that our words should be yea or nay and the rest comes from the evil one. So it is a heart issue when people curse. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. So people need to be very careful what they listen to such as rap music or movies that convey a lot of filthy language. Those things can be sown into the heart and eventually it will come out. Jesus said that eating with unclean hands will not make you unclean, but what comes out of a man's mouth makes them unclean. As a Christian myself, I have to cast down thoughts of curse words. Everyone is human, and even Christians have that urge to just give someone a good cursing out! Especially when some people that have pushed your buttons! That is when self-control comes in. Self control is a fruit of the Spirit, and God said in your anger do not sin. He didn't say that you would never be angry, but he said do not sin in your anger.

Now I'll be honest, I curse. It's very bad habit that started when I was younger. I've tried to kick it plenty of times, but I found that when I become angry profanity is the first thing that falls off my tounge. However in everyday conversation, I really don't use profanity, partly because it doesn't sound lady like and partly because I really don't see the need. There was a point in time when I would curse like a sailor, but that changed as I matured. I am also a christian, I believe in my faith whole-heartedly, but that's one of my many imperfections. After I've gotten gotten angry and chewed someone out I actually review everything I said and think about how I could have gotten my point across differently and possibly gotten better results. However, as I digress, I realize that Rome was not built in a day and neither was my habit. So my progress is a slow process, but as long as I'm working on it, it's okay.

PRAISE THE LORD!!!
This has turned out to be a very interesting thread.
I just learned something new today...I didn't know that curse words were useful and I didn't know that someone can curse you out in a loving way. I guess that means that I learned 2 things today. LOL
I'm really interested in knowing how curse words are useful. I would like to understand how you can be lovingly cursed out. TO ME, anybody that calls me out of my name is not doing it out of love.
True there are other words that are just as harmful as curse words.
Now let me put a new twist on this...when you (meaning whoever) curse, you are being disrespectful to everyone around---including yourself. If you can curse someone out, how can you knock them for cursing you out? It doesn't matter if it's one time or a thousand, it's still disrespectful. To let someone call you out of your name (even if they're laughing when they say it) is disrespectful. There are too many words to describe a female for someone to use a curse word. I'm not so set on profanity being a shame because of me, I'm also thinking about our society. I'm thinking about my kids, and my future grandkids. What kind of message would we be sending our sons if we let them believe that it's alright to curse out people? What kind of message would we be sending our daughters if we let them believe that it's okay for people to curse them out as long as they're only playing??
COME ON NOW...LET'S BE REAL!!!
Sometimes we get so caught up in "US", that we forget that there is a generation behind us that is watching what we say and do. Just like we grew up watching what someone else did or didn't do, somebody is watching what we do or don't do. So, I'm going to make sure that I'm a "pick you up," kind of person, and not a "bring you down" one.
