I am a senior in high school this year and I am considering auditioning for a band scholarship at Howard. But I have some questions: What is the most that you can recieve in scholarships? And do they allow you to get refund a check? I'm just wondering.

I think the most you can receive for a band scholarship is $8,000 (I'm not sure, though). Usually the scholarship money is split between semesters. For example, if you get $8,000 per year it will be divided $4,000 per semester. For more information you should contact Mr. John Newson, Director of Bands at Howard Univeristy at 202-806-5241 or visit us online at MySpace.com - Howard University "Showtime" Marching Band - WASHINGTON, Washington DC - Hip Hop / R&B / Other - www.myspace.com/showtimebandagetdown and/or Howard University "Showtime" Marching Band

No problem! I marched in Howard's band, so I always help out when I can. If you have any questions about my personal band experience (trips, games, parades, balancing classes and band rehearsals) dont hesitate to ask. What instrument do you play?

I play trombone. How long are the practices? And another concern of mine's was would be able to be involved in other organizations or would band be my life? Lol. Those were my main concerns because of school work and all the fun stuff that comes along with college.

Band rehearsals are Monday -- Friday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and sectionals are one hour from 8:00pm to 9:00pm. Your freshmen year, you will not be able to do too much because you have band camp, games, parades, trips, etc. and getting used to the schedule and classes will take time. The only people who make band their life are Music majors However, sophomore, junior and senior year students have alot more leeway to do whatever. People in our band have pledged, worked part time jobs, done internships and losts of other things on campus. When I marched in the band, I was also on the Newspaper staff. If you are well rounded and great at time manangement, you can do anything
