DURHAM -- N.C. Central University announced Thursday that its School of Law has received continued accreditation confirmation from the American Bar Association.
The ABA visits all accredited law schools in seven-year cycles to determine whether those schools should continue to be accredited. After a visit at NCCU in March 2006, ABA representatives expressed concern that a lack of funding could affect the school's ability to support increased enrollment in addition to concerns about NCCU's reliance on federal grants.
Reviewers also expressed concerns about the impact low faculty salaries would have on faculty retention and recruitment.
In response, NCCU increased tuition and the General Assembly added $5 million in recurring funds to its existing allocations to the school. NCCU also increased its law library holdings in response to other concerns and made changes in the operations of its law clinic.
The ABA determined that the moves satisfied its accreditation standards with regard to finances.
