Bad Semester

Hi, I just finished my high school sophomore year. Second semester I didn't do all that great. I had a case of sophomoritist, and I "I just turned 16 so i now think I'm grown" lol.I got over this, but I'm scared that colleges will look badly upon this semester. I finished the year with roughly a 3.1. In the former semesters my G.P.A. was around 3.5. I'd LIKE to attend Spelman College, but will this semester hurt my chances. I plan on getting back on track and maintaining at least a 3.8 in the next year and then applying early action senior year. I have projected SAT scores in the 1300/1600 range based on my current PSAT score. So do you think I still have a chance if I get my stuff together junior year?

I think as long as you do well in your junior year by maintaing a good GPA, you will be fine. Colleges mainly look at your junior year grades, GPA, and SAT/ACT scores.

congratulate yourself for recognizing the need to change early.. i know some seniors who wanted to play around til the last minute & well, lets just say they will not be graduating nowhere near '08.

Thanks. I feel better knowing that junior year holds more weight than sophomore year. Do you know why that is? I've heard this before, but I've never understood why.

I know, I know. My mom set me straight though. I skipped one day, and called me in as her...i swear once she found out by the look on her face I just knew I didn't want to get in the car with her. I know I got to get it straight this year though. This isn't a test run of life this is the real deal.

umm...well that was only one thing i did. i ended up doing quite a few other things that i said i'd wait to do. But my biggest concern was my gpa decrease because spelman's average gpa is high. I can't even worry about the other stuff, whats done is done and I can't go back and change it. However I can get more focused on my grades. P.S. it's more about what I did when I skipped that got me in alot of trouble. Not so much the skipping.

We all make mistakes in life. The important thing is to learn from your mistake, it’s not where you start, but where you finish! Since you are a sophomore, you have time to improve your GPA. Personally, I think you can rebound from a 3.1 GPA. Just keep working hard in (GPA) and out (Community Service) of the classroom. Good Luck!
