1.0 GPA & Howard University?

Could I get into Howard University with the following criteria? Freshman year: 1.0 GPA (my father died right before school started) Sophomore year: 2.2465 (my mother re-married, I was depressed) Junior year: 4.375 Senior year: 4.501 Cumulative GPA: 3.01 (weighted) 2.8 (unweighted) ACT: 33 Mock Trial: 4 years (senior year, Captain) French Club: 1 year Debate Team: 1 year Environmental Club: 3 years (senior year, Vice President) Key Club: 3 years (senior year, Secretary) After School Job - 4 years Blank Park Zoo Volunteer - 4 years Black Teen Summit: 4 years NAACP Youth Council - 4 years (senior year, Secretary) Over the summer: Mock Trial Camp and Summer job - both for 4 years I want to major in Sociology and History with a French minor ..But I'm scared I'll get rejected because of my freshman and sophomore year grades. Also, does anyone know if there are scholarships for Mock Trial? Thanks, $0.02

You showed consistent improvement in your gpa, which will work in your favor. I think you have a good chance. 4.3 / 4.5 - AP credits? Make sure you have a strong application essay and your recommendations are solid, and you should be fine.

It is very likely that you can get accepted. YMake sure your essay explains the incidents that occurred that affected you grads. Your growth was tremendous and showed your true capabilities. WORK **** THE ESSAY!!!! this will be essential in you acceptance. Make sure you express you true emotion toward the incidents and tell how you have risen from where you were befor to what you are now You should be proud of yourself. its not easy to deal with what you have. Keep ya head up sweetie and keep it up. with persistence and determination anything is possible. Keep in contact with Howard University reps. call there offices and talk to them good luck!!!
