So from what I understand becoming a member of a sorority is a real commitment. I see most people join in their soph and junior years but I was wondering if after u pledge that was the only thing that you were occupied with. I mean can u like.. play ball or do other extracurricular things and still be a member of XYZ or is it such a comitment of time on both ends that you would have to choose one or the other

Of course you can become occupied with other extracurricular activities, you just have to prioritize.
I joined my sophomore year and was the Chapter President and SGA Vice-President at the same time. My wife joined her organization and also played volleyball and softball.
It can be done. Some just choose to focus solely on their particular organization and not get involved with anything else.
It's called "time management".
If you can balance being in a sorority and everything else, then go for it!
