I really want to go to Howard University in D.C. to major in African Studies and minor in Philosophy. What do you guys think my chances of being accepted are?
My admissions letter is really good and it's 6 pages long. I have letters of recommendation from an English Teacher and a Judge.
The reason for my poor grades is because I've gone through a lot of things these past few years, such as the death of my father and grandmother, living in a homeless shelter, the remarriage of my mother, and attending 4 different schools. What do you think the chances of me being accepted are though?

I'd say you definitely have a shot! Write a good essay and I think you should get some recommendations from your teachers too... Talk to some of the other females on the site that are howard students too...
I got in with the exact same GPA and an ACT of 27, and I only had a couple of extra-curricular activities. Apply, and you should be able to get in.
I think you have a great shot, but may I ask why your ACT is so High but your GPA is so low?
Malik4999 did they give you any scholarships?
Oh I see that you said you went thru somethings but was your gpa like this all four years?
Def try and get some more rec letters, two isn't enough. I sent in 6 but maybe three or four at the least

Yep. Just make sure your application essay is on point. Explain how your experiences made you a stronger, more disciplined person, and you can turn those things into a positive. Good luck!
