BLUEFIELD, W. Va. (WVVA) -For the last two decades, the Mercer County Branch of the NAACP has been holding a celebration of Doctor Martin Luther King Junior, coinciding with his birthday. They’ve had different venues through the years, with this year’s event being held in the John Stewart United Methodist Church in Bluefield, West Virginia.
Various pastors and community members spoke at the event. Among them, Dr. Darrin Martin, Bluefield State University’s new Interim President, who talked about the long-lasting effect that Dr. King’s words have had on this country and the impact they continue to make in the hearts of people today, as evidenced by the many people attending this event.
