We argued recently....
He went to Johnson C Smith...and he let his experience their deter him from wanting to attend another HBCU and ANYONE he knows who desires to attends he starts this whole argument about how HBCUS are this and that...and why he think NO ONE should go...and how PWI's can do this and that for you....
he said only a handful of students at Johnson C Smith were really interested in getting an education and motivated to do this and that...he said some of the people he knew was only there because they didn't want to transfer and leave their friends...and their place of comfort....
He even said he was in downtown Charlotte and alot of the locals had NEVER even heard of the school...he was like "When the people at Bank America right down from the school has never heard of your school....its time to go!!"
and really it just pisses me off...that he doesn't support my decision to attend a HBCU...he wouldn't even look at my essay....

girl, don't u DARE let him phase u....
i went thru that same thing when I was deciding to attend an HBCU...A&T or otherwise...
everyone always has their this & that to say about HBCUs, but you just have to learn to DISREGARD IT ALL...
you do what's good for you and what makes you happy....
i would've been **** as hell @ myself if I would've succombed to all of the pessimism I heard my senior year in thinking about attending an HBCU....
A&T does a lot of things that irk me, but on the scale of the good vs. the bad....none of it is bad enough to where I regret my decision in choosing to go here....there is NEVER a moment where I regret choosing to go here....
i can't even stand to hear people talk down about community and technical colleges....COLLEGE is COLLEGE...it's ALL a form of postsecondary, HIGHER education...so more power to ALL who actually take the 2, 3, 4, or so years out of their life to PURSUE it...
& what people always seem to forget is, regardless of what institution of higher learning you choose, it's all about the individual....
if YOU want to make it....become successful....rich....whatEVER your dreams and goals consist of....if you REALLY want them...they can happen...doesn't matter WHAT you do in life to get there...
I mean, just to see people in high places now who never even set foot in college...or just did so for 2 dayz & bounced....
or never even graduated from HIGH SCHOOL, for that matter...tells it all...
shoot, you can get your bachelor's degree at Yale...your master's at Princeton....and your doctorate at Harvard....and STILL ultimately "fail" by society's standards...and/or not even accomplish 1/4th of your dream...
so it's all about YOU....that's ya friend, but I've had friends like that....just tell him to STAY OUT THA KOOL~AID, DO WHAT HE FEELS IS RIGHT FOR HIM, AND LET U DO WHAT YOU FEEL IS RIGHT FOR U, PERIOD.
