They're 50/50. Lyrics without the track is an acapella. Track without the lyrics is an instrumental.

It depends on the context of the song. Party Joints - are mostly track with a tight hook and flow that compliments the track. When u are in the car listening to the radio or watching the video you aren't really focusing in on the meat of what they are saying Album joints - are usually more lyric based. I have heard some songs that had booboo tracks but were still hot because of how the MC/Rapper handled it. Then there are some songs that have the best of both worlds and are tight all around like stuff that Jay and Nas usually come out with.

Dang...you just took the words right outta my mouth!!! I really feel like it matters on the context of the song and the artist. For example, if it's a new lil Jon joint about to be played I'll expect a tight beat before I expect thought prevoking lyrics. Conversely, if it's Common I'm more interested in what he has to say than whether the beat is hot. But of course there are some artists who are in the middle and give you the best of both worlds.

both...but in a way i guess it depends on the song, if its like a easy listening or party song den i guess its more about the beat....but a song wit strong lyrical content should not have a beat dat would distract listeners from the message dat is tryin to be expressed...

Yeah, some artists just want to entertain, some artist want to put a message out.

Lyrics are important. You can't have a hit on a whack beat. So it's really like... if you're lyrics are whack on a tough beat. It won't be a hit, but you can have average lyrics on a tough beat and have it be a hit. So I'd prolly have to say the beat really makes the song.

The lyrics determine whether I listen to the song or not. If the beat is tight, and I have to listen to garbage lyrics throughout the entire song, the beat is devalued because of the lyrics. Like the other day I heard this song, sick beat, the first guy came on spittin, he was decent. Then from there on the rest of the verses were garbage. The delivery in itself sucked. Avg. Lyrics with tight lyrics have a lot more longevity and I won't get tired of it quickly. Sick lyrics over a garbage beat would still be hot, because obviously the artist is good enough to stay constant on his delivery and basically work with the beat, making it somewhat better. I just can't listen to crappy lyrics on a consistent basis tho.
