Hampton or Spelman?

Yes...I know the decision is mines but ya girl needs some insight....all the info I can get.. I've been accepted into both schools....Spelman was always my first choice but I LOVED Hampton when I visited the campus and they became my second. Originally Howard was my second but I didnt like the environment when I visited the campus so I didnt even bother to apply. I live in New York State- 12 hour drive to Hampton, 20 hours to Spelman I've never been to Spelman before so I dont want to accept and wind up in the "howard" situation where I didnt like the environment. Spelbound is April 2-3 and they want an rsvp by march 28....thats 8 days...mind u I got my acceptance letter today. Hamptons highschool day is april 7. I was planning on going but now that I got into Spelman I dont know. We were going to drive to Hampton...but we'll have to fly to Spelman...money is kind of scarce *I dont know what I want to major in *I hear I have some family in Virginia 30 minutes from hampton, I dont know them but Ihear they are real nice folks. *They're like the same price, and neither school has really offered me anything yet. ----------------------------------------- from a college students experience and from what you know about the schools? What would you do if you were in my situation.

Man, it's like the school experiences can be totally different. Like the chick said above before, it's what type of enviornment you want. Right now,m they're both looking kinda the same. I'd go to either to Spelman's spelbound or Hampton's highschool day to get a feel for both schools. I'll be working Hampton's highschool day, so get at me if you decide to attend. The real decision maker will be if they offer you money.

It is where ever your heart is I suppose. Hampton has a wider selection of majors so that may help you in figuring out what you want to do. Plus I have already told you about their physics situation. Hampton is in suburbia; you are able to party with NSU and some PWIs like ODU and CNU. I don't know how to help. I am sorry Laura, but go to both high school days if you can and figure out which you like the most.

i'd stick with hampton, and believe i'm not just saying that cuz i go here. some reasons to consider HamptonU over Spelman ~ it's all about what job you'll be able to get after you graduate, & hampton is a bigger name school than spelman. ~ come on, who really wants to go to an all girl school? ~ you said that Spelman's a 20 hour drive. 20 hour drive. yuck. go with Hampton! ~ .... i can't think of any other reasons lol ok on a more serious note, good luck with deciding which one to go with... thank goodness i didn't have to choose between schools; i can't imagine how hard the process must be...

Hmmm I wouldn't necessarily say Hampton was a bigger name school than Spelman, especially not when it comes to job recruiting. We have job fairs, grad school fairs, and all kinds of seminars with companies big name and all that come to recruit for internships and jobs. But yea, I say come to Spel-bound and see what its like, and go to Hampton's day and make your decision from there. Nobody knows what you like, want, and need in your college experience like you do.

well of course you're quite familiar with spelman; you're from the south; which makes you slightly biased. i didn't even know/hadn't heard a thing about spelman until my junior year of high school, but i've been familiar with hampton since elementary school... and the school you graduate from DOES impact where you get a job; maybe more so with graduate school; but you can't say that your undergraduate school doesn't have any effect on the type of job you'll get. if i were an employer, and two equally qualified people were applying for a position; (same test scores, same everything)... hey... i'd generally be more apt towards choosing the candidate from the bigger name school; maybe that's just me.
