Clinical Teaching Fellow - Appellate Litigation Clinic Clinical Teaching Fellow - Appellate Litigation Clinic Georgetown University: Law Center Location: Georgetown Law Clinics Open Date: Nov 20, 2025 Deadline: Description The Appellate Litigation Clinic is seeking applications for a two-year fellowship beginning in the summer of 2026! Please read below for a description of the fellowship and for application submission information. Clinic and Fellowship Overview The Appellate Litigation Clinic at Georgetown Law seeks applicants for a two-year fellowship in appellate advocacy. Working in collaboration with the Clinic Director, the fellow will take the lead on litigating public-interest appeals before federal courts of appeals and, on occasion, the U.S. Supreme Court. The clinic accepts appointments to represent indigent clients in appeals that address a broad range of issues, including civil rights, criminal defense, habeas, and immigration. The fellow will work on all aspects of an appeal and will supervise student teams in a collaborative learning environment. The fellow will also have the opportunity to argue at least one case before a federal appellate court. Former fellows have gone on to pursue careers in appellate advocacy, civil rights impact litigation, criminal defense, and academia. The clinic is comprised of Professor Erica Hashimoto, the clinic director; two graduate teaching fellows; and sixteen third-year full-time or fourth-year evening students. Students participate in the clinic for the full year (both fall and spring semesters). The fellow will serve as a supervising attorney to two or three student teams each year and will work closely with students to improve their written and oral advocacy throughout the appeal. The fellow may also co-supervise cases with the director or the other clinic fellow. Fellows may also be asked to handle cases that are held over from previous years. Mentorship and collaboration are important aspects of the Appellate Litigation Clinic experience. The fellow will assist student attorneys as they transition from being law students to student attorneys. Fellows also jointly teach (with the director) a weekly seminar that explores many aspects of appellate advocacy, client-centered lawyering, and professional responsibility. The salary for the fellowship will be $70,000 for the first year and $75,000 for the second year. Fellows join a wider cohort of Georgetown Law Clinical Graduate Teaching Fellows and will receive an LL.M. in Advocacy upon successful completion of the two-year fellowship. Fellows in the program participate in a year-long teacher training course, Elements of Clinical Pedagogy, for their first fellowship year; receive mentorship for academic scholarship; and have access to Georgetown Law's full set of resources. Qualifications We encourage applications from those with a commitment to public-interest law, demonstrated interest in appellate litigation, and enthusiasm for clinical legal education. Candidates should have at least one year of relevant experience beyond the J.D. degree (e.g., clerkship, government, or private practice) and membership in a state bar. Fellows who are not members of the D.C. Bar must apply for admission no later than ninety days after the commencement of the fellowship.
