A world-class and internationally ranked college with programs in art, design, architecture, liberal arts and sciences, and information studies, Pratt offers nearly 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

The Institute's impact expands beyond its 25-acre residential campus in Brooklyn to cutting-edge facilities throughout the borough, a landmark building and public gallery in Manhattan, as well as an extension campus, Pratt Munson College of Art and Design in Utica, New York. On Governors Island, Pratt is a core partner on the Stony Brook University team selected to develop the New York Climate Exchange, a research and educational hub poised to establish New York City as the global leader for the most pressing issue of our time: climate change. Another extension of Pratt's campus is the Research Yard, a 20,000-square-foot facility that brings together the research activities of Pratt Institute under one roof in the Brooklyn Navy Yard (BNY).

Since our founding in 1887, Pratt has upheld the belief that education should be accessible to all who wish to learn. As a community, we define ourselves as standard setters who are:
  • Resourceful and collaborative problem solvers,
  • Socially responsible and equity-centered creatives,
  • Adaptable and resilient global stewards,
  • Inquisitive and compassionate community members.

Description

Reporting to the Director of Counseling, the Coordinator for Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) Services provides essential leadership, clinical services, and educational programming related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and abuse within Pratt Institute's Integrated Health and Wellbeing Center. This position focuses on implementing best practices in substance use prevention and harm reduction while providing direct clinical care, including assessment, short-term individual counseling, and group facilitation for students. The Coordinator plays a critical role in fostering a campus culture of health, safety, and informed decision-making.

Examples of Duties

I. Clinical Services and Case Management (40%)

  • Provide direct, short-term individual counseling, crisis intervention, and follow-up specifically focused on substance use, addiction, and co-occurring mental health concerns.
  • Conduct substance use assessments, including the utilization of evidence-based models such as BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening & Intervention for College Students), for students seeking services or those referred through the student conduct process.
  • Facilitate targeted support and therapy groups related to ATOD issues (e.g., harm reduction, recovery support, and groups for family members/partners of those with substance use issues).
  • Collaborate with Counseling Services clinicians and refer students to appropriate off-campus resources when specialized or long-term care is required.

II. Prevention, Education, and Outreach (35%)
  • Serve as the institutional expert and leader on ATOD issues, ensuring programs and services align with current public health and higher education best practices (e.g., Harm Reduction principles).
  • Design, implement, and evaluate high-impact educational and prevention programming to reduce the negative consequences of substance use, impacting the entire student body and relevant campus stakeholders.
  • Provide professional consultation and outreach to faculty, staff, parents, and student leaders on ATOD issues, signs of concern, and appropriate response protocols.
  • Actively participate in campus-wide initiatives, including new student orientation and training for Residential Life and student affairs staff.

III. Supervision and Inter-Departmental Leadership (15%)
  • Provide direct clinical and administrative supervision for assigned staff (e.g., Health Promotion Specialists, Outreach Liaisons) and clinical interns, specifically in areas related to substance use disorder treatment and prevention.
  • Coordinate with key departments (e.g., Residential Life & Housing, Student Conduct, Student Health) to streamline referral processes and ensure consistent application of substance use policies.
  • Actively participate in departmental and Divisional strategic planning and quality improvement initiatives.

IV. Administrative and Resource Management (10%)
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical documentation in compliance with all legal and ethical standards (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA).
  • Assess and manage external community resources to maintain a current and relevant referral network.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW), Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related mental health field.

Licensure:
  • Current, independent, and unrestricted license to practice in New York State (e.g., LCSW, LMHC, LCP). Required: Current Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) certification or equivalent substance use disorder certification/license is strongly preferred

Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of post-master's clinical experience, with at least two (2) years of demonstrated experience in program development, outreach, and prevention in a college or university setting.

Skills/Knowledge:
  • Proven expertise in delivering substance abuse treatment utilizing the Harm Reduction Model. Certification and/or extensive experience conducting BASICS assessments. Demonstrated competence in crisis intervention, multicultural competence, and group facilitation.

**For consideration, please submit a resume and cover letter. If you are moved forward in the interview process, you will be requested to submit at least three professional references.
