Biomedical Flight Controller (BME) Title: Biomedical Flight Controller (BME)Belong. Connect. Grow. with KBR! We are a company of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers and dreamers and we all share one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely. On the Human Health and Performance Contract we are at the forefront of safeguarding astronaut health, ensuring human performance, and advancing technologies for human space exploration. We are seeking an International Space Station (ISS) and Gateway Biomedical Flight Controller (BME) at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX. What Youll Do: In this role, you play a role in supporting the International Space Station (ISS) as a Biomedical Flight Controller (BME) and the Gateway program as an Integrator. Overall, this Gateway BME will split half of their time between the two projects for 36 months, after which the employee and their managements will re-assess the division of support. The general function of the Biomedical Flight Controller (call-sign: BME) is to ensure astronaut health and safety by providing operational and technical support as representatives of the Human Health & Performance (HH&P) Directorate at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC). The BME provides this support on console in the Mission Control Center (MCC) for the ISS, as well as off-console through various project assignments, meeting support, and other mission support roles. The BME is the primary Crew Health Care System (CHeCS) representative to the MCC flight control team; CHeCS includes all hardware/software in the CounterMeasures System (CMS), Environmental Health System (EHS), Health Maintenance System (HMS), and private video teleconferencing (for routine medical checkups, remote telemedicine support, and psychological support of family/friends). A large portion of the job corresponding to flight operations involves responding to new situations as they arise, thinking on your feet, and relying on your training to react in a real-time, fast-paced operational environment. Incumbent will perform other assignments and duties as required. While not supporting console in MCC, this BME will serve as a Human Health and Performance (HHPC) Integrator for the Gateway program. The position is part of a team of integrators and subject matter experts (SMEs) who work together to ensure Gateway adequately incorporates and implements NASA standards into vehicle/mission design. Working closely with other integrators, the Integrator will obtain and maintain technical knowledge across all human health and performance disciplines and engage SMEs for the details. HHP disciplines include crew health, environmental factors, medical operations, physiology, anthropometry, strength and biomechanics, maintenance and housekeeping, safety, habitability and architecture, information management, and displays and controls. The position will participate in designated meetings and working groups as a mechanism for monitoring the incorporation of HHP design consideration in vehicle design. The Integrator will monitor how well HHPC requirements are met, ensure that issues of unmet or under met requirements are documented, communicate the status of these issues to the HMTA/HHP team, and prepare materials for communicating awareness or escalating issues as needed. The position will interface with HMTA and HHP NASA management as well as with Program personnel. Position may eventually include working console in MCC for Gateway operations. You will:
