The State of Connecticut, Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) is recruiting for a Qualified Craft Worker (HVACR) to work throughout the state, maintaining HVAC systems at DESPP radio towers, troops, and buildings.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

SHIFT: This position is full-time, on a first shift schedule.
SCHEDULE: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (40 hours per week) Monday through Friday, however, the selected individual can be called on after hours for emergency service repairs to DESPP radio towers, troops, and buildings statewide.
LOCATION: This on-site position is based out of the Mulcahy Campus, 294 Colony Street in Meriden, CT. The selected individual will park a state-owned vehicle at the closest Troop or DESPP building to their home.
NOTE: This position will have a voluntary Snow and Ice removal assignment from November 1st through April 15th annually – Some storms can last for multiple days.

YOUR ROLE

In this position, you will travel to various job sites across the state to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in a variety of building types. You’ll be troubleshooting and repairing equipment from various manufacturers, ensuring that systems operate at peak efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have experience diagnosing and resolving issues across a wide variety of HVAC equipment, including commercial and residential systems and may assist or be assisted by other team members from the Facilities Department as needed. Strong problem-solving skills, a solid understanding of HVAC technology, and the ability to work independently are essential. Qualifications & Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience in tasks in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration trade.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been performing skilled heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration trades.

NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Skilled Maintainer or Transportation Maintainer 2.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of subject requirements in a maintenance trade area may be substituted for two (2) years of the General Experience.
At the University of Connecticut: Satisfactory performance and completion of the UConn Facilities Internship Training Program may be substituted for the General and Special Experience as determined by UConn Facilities Operations and Human Resources Management.
At other state agencies: Two (2) years of experience as a Qualified Craft Worker Trainee in a designated maintenance trade area may be substituted for the General and Special Experience.
Experience performing technical duties within the HVACR trade area on a military base, aircraft carrier or large compound may be substituted for the General and Special Experience on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience installing and repairing air conditioning systems, air handlers, condensers, boilers, and package units in a commercial and residential setting;
• Experience performing preventive maintenance on HVACR systems and equipment, cleaning coils, changing belts and filter replacements;
• Experience making material lists and getting quotes for assigned tasks;
• Experience troubleshooting commercial and residential issues of HVAC equipment;
• Experience with refrigerant gases for commercial HVAC equipment;
• Experience utilizing electronic devices for communication, payroll entries, reviewing and closing electronic work orders.
