Cath Lab Tech, PRN - One UMMS Staffing Center
Job Requirements

The Cath Lab Technologist in the UMMS Staffing Center is responsible for performing a wide range of specialized invasive cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional procedures. This role provides flexible, system-wide staffing support across assigned facilities, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The technologist works collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to support the diagnosis, management, and treatment of cardiovascular disease in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.This position requires a high degree of clinical competence, adaptability, and professionalism to effectively integrate into varying teams and workflows across the system.

Primary Responsibilities

Performs and assists with cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional procedures in accordance with established protocols, utilizing appropriate techniques to produce optimal clinical information for physician interpretation.

Establishes and maintains a sterile field; adheres to universal precautions and organizational infection prevention and control policies.

Transports patients to and from procedure and recovery areas while maintaining patient dignity, privacy, and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Collaborates and communicates effectively with physicians and the interdisciplinary team regarding plan of care, patient status, and procedural outcomes; documents appropriately in designated systems.

Demonstrates competency in required skills within the Interventional Angiography and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

Promotes patient safety by adhering to Universal Protocol, verifying correct patient, procedure, site, and indication prior to invasive procedures.

Recognizes, interprets, and communicates hemodynamic changes, including invasive pressure waveforms, to support timely clinical decision-making.

Monitors, maintains, and ensures readiness of emergency equipment; reports malfunctions and facilitates resolution.

Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including federal, state, local, and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.

Educates patients and designated family members regarding procedures, expectations, and recovery.

Reviews procedure schedules to ensure availability of supplies, equipment, and resources to support efficient workflow.

Assists physicians during procedures requiring advanced clinical support, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and responds effectively in emergent situations.

Operates and troubleshoots job-related equipment safely; escalates issues to appropriate personnel as needed.

Applies ionizing radiation under physician direction in accordance with safety standards, minimizing exposure to patients, staff, and self.

Demonstrates age-appropriate communication and interpersonal skills with adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations, as well as families and visitors.

Performs other duties as assigned.



Work Experience

Education & Experience - Required

1.Successful completion of an accredited Radiography program is required

2.Current Maryland radiation license required

3.Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 90 days of hire

4.Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a hospital imaging setting required

Education & Experience - Preferred

1.Active Radiography certification through ARRT preferred



Benefits

Compensation:

$75/hr Flat Rate
