Job Description


Schedule: 2:30 PM 1:00 AM; 7-on/7-off rotation


This position is responsible for delivering comprehensive medication therapy management services, including both clinical and distributive functions. The role collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare providers to ensure medication therapy is safe, effective, efficient, and cost-conscious.


Key pharmacy services include, but are not limited to, medication distribution, therapy monitoring, order management, drug information support, and dosing. The pharmacist ensures continuity of patient care by adhering to departmental policies, Board of Pharmacy regulations, and all applicable regulatory standards.


This role provides oversight and guidance to Pharmacy Technicians within their scope of practice and may contribute to the training and education of new team members and learners through both practical and didactic instruction. The pharmacist practices independently within the scope of licensure, following established policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines, with support from Pharmacy Leadership. When designated, this individual may assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of pharmacy leadership.


Specific responsibilities are maintained and documented internally by the Department of Pharmacy.


Primary Responsibilities


The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:

  • Deliver pharmaceutical care by promoting optimal drug therapy and ensuring safe medication use
  • Review patient-specific data to assess medication needs, verify medication orders, and oversee the preparation, dispensing, distribution, and monitoring of medications
  • Collaborate with and provide education to pharmacists, physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, patients, and caregivers
  • Serve as a preceptor for students and trainees as assigned
  • Support quality, safety, and cost-effective care through ongoing evaluation and improvement of medication use processes across patient populations
  • Supervise and direct pharmacy staff to ensure compliance with service standards and operational excellence
  • Participate in and/or provide direct patient care across various settings as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Work Experience

Qualifications


  • Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) required, except for candidates who graduated from a U.S. School of Pharmacy in or before 2003, or possess a foreign equivalent degree
  • Valid Maryland Pharmacist License
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience preferred
