Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Cardiac Program Nurse Coordinator manages, maintains, and disseminates data for the American College of Cardiology (ACC) National Cardiovascular Data Registries (NCDR) including CathPCI, and the American Heart Association (AHA) Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) database.

Responsibilities include data collection, abstraction, entry, quality assurance, and reporting to regulatory bodies such as the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) and Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) in accordance with COMAR regulations.

The coordinator supports program development, quality improvement initiatives, clinical documentation improvement, and regulatory compliance related to cardiovascular care. Serves as a liaison between UM SMCE clinical departments, systemwide UMMS committees, and statewide data coordinator groups.

Primary Responsibilities

The role requires a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland, a Bachelors degree in Nursing (Masters preferred), proficiency with Microsoft Office, and at least three years of cardiac care experience, with management or quality experience preferred. The individual will manage clinical data and support quality initiatives for cardiac programs, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and process improvement. Key responsibilities include:

Screen, abstract, and enter clinical data for all eligible registry cases, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.

Maintain comprehensive data repositories, perform validation, and report findings to committees.

Coordinate with healthcare teams and patients to ensure proper data capture and patient-centered care.

Develop and implement patient education materials supporting cardiac procedures, recovery, and follow-up.

Analyze clinical processes, compliance, and outcomes to recommend improvements and best practices.

Support development, monitoring, and education on STEMI, NSTEMI, and chest pain protocols and guidelines.

Provide consultation and education to staff, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams regarding registry outcomes and improvement initiatives.

Lead and coordinate interdisciplinary cardiac program teams, ensuring alignment with accreditation, certification, and quality improvement goals.

Represent the organization at state and national NCDR Data Coordinator meetings.

This role serves as a subject matter expert in cardiac data management, quality improvement, and program leadership, driving excellence in patient care, data integrity, and clinical outcomes.

Interdepartmental and External Collaboration

Serve as the primary liaison among Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Emergency Department, Cath Lab, cardiology providers, and inpatient units

Facilitate communication and coordination throughout the STEMI care process, including prehospital, emergency, interventional, and postacute phases

Organize and lead multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and feedback sessions

Education and Training

Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for clinical staff related to STEMI processes and evidencebased care

Coordinate training simulations, competency assessments, and performance drills

Participate in community outreach initiatives and patient education activities focused on acute cardiac care

Policy and Process Development

Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of policies, procedures, and standardized protocols to support efficient and effective STEMI care

Ensure timely updates to process documents based on evolving guidelines and regulatory expectations

Operational and Clinical Support

Provide realtime support during STEMI activations as needed to facilitate timely care and ensure adherence to established protocols

Serve as a resource to clinicians and staff regarding documentation, workflow clarification, and quality measures



Work Experience

Education:

Bachelors degree in nursing

Masters degree in nursing (preferred)

Experience:

Three years of clinical Cath Lab related experience in all modalities.

Computer/Software Knowledge:

Demonstrated competence in Microsoft systems.

Proficiency with Cardiac Cath Information management systems and report creation

Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and maintaining Cardiac Cath Lab information management and radiology systems.

Competent in Excel and Power Point

Licensure/Certification

Registered Nurse AND Certifications specific to area of specialty.

ACLS and BLS required.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with physicians and other healthcare providers

Basic knowledge of cardiology billing and coding applications.

Excellent organization and communication skills

Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
