In this role, you will support critical financial operations by reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, monitoring expenditures, and generating financial reports that ensure accuracy, compliance, and sound fiscal management. As an Accountant, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the District's financial systems. Responsibilities include reviewing and auditing financial data, managing grant reimbursement processes, supporting trust and general ledger accounting, participating in year-end closing and audit activities, and coordinates effectively with external vendors and auditors to support audits and reporting requirements. You will collaborate with departments across the District to resolve discrepancies, interpret financial data, and ensure adherence to District policies as well as federal and state regulations. LBCC is recruiting for two (2) Accountant positions: one (1) in Facilities & Operations and one (1) in Fiscal Services. This position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to independently manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with District policies and procedures. Additionally, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field and two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Duties GENERAL PURPOSE Under general supervision, performs professional accounting duties in the analysis, preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports for various District accounts and funds; and performs related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Accountants perform professional accounting and financial functions requiring a fundamental knowledge of the District's purchasing, accounts payable, revenue and accounts receivable processes and procedures. Incumbents are expected to perform these functions in an accurate, timely manner and exercise initiative in resolving problems related to these functions by referring to District and State policies and procedures and knowledge gained through experience. Accountant is distinguished from Senior Accountant in that employees in the latter class work with greater independence and perform more complex accounting and analyses of greater significance and impact on the operations and management of the District. Qualifications Education, Training and Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field; and two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience is evaluated on the basis of a verifiable 35 hour week, unless specified otherwise. Prorated part-time experience may be acceptable. Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
