Lead Systems Engineer AWS Cloud
SYSTEMS ENGINEER SR PRINCIPALGDIT is looking for a Lead Systems Engineer supporting DOJ Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF / National Coordination Center (NCC). Senior systems engineer responsible for end-to-end design, integration, and verification of mission-critical law enforcement capabilities in AWS Cloud and hybrid (cloud/on-prem) environments. Translates operational requirements into system-level designs and testable requirements; develops and maintains core SE artifacts (requirements, traceability, specifications, diagrams, test plans, baselines); leads integration and system-level testing across applications, data, infrastructure, and security; and drives transition to operations. Partners with the Systems Architect on technical design, ensures compliance with federal security frameworks (e.g., NIST 80053, FedRAMP, DOJ), and improves systems engineering practices on the program. Provides technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and coordinates infrastructure and software projects. Key details for the req header/constraintsTitle: Lead Systems Engineer AWS CloudProgram: Homeland Security Task Force National Coordination Center (NCC)Work location: Fairfax, VA Hybrid (approx. 60% on-site) Citizenship: U.S. Citizen requiredClearance: Active Secret required; must be able to obtain TSEducation: Bachelors degree in Engineering or technical field or equivalentExperience: 10 years+Core qualifications for the reqExtensive systems engineering experience on complex, mission-critical, multi-system environments; law enforcement or similar mission programs strongly preferred.Hands-on systems engineering in AWS Cloud in government space, integrating applications, data, and infrastructure across cloud and on-prem.Expertise in requirements analysis/traceability, system design, integration planning, test planning, and V&V.Ability to work across multiple technical disciplines and interface with customers, operations, and cyber.Familiarity with NIST 80053, FedRAMP, DOJ policies, and law enforcement data protections.Ability to obtain and maintain required clearance/suitability.Preferred for screeningExperience with real-time/near-real-time law enforcement coordination or incident/investigation workflows.Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS/DynamoDB, S3, API Gateway, Lambda, CloudWatch/CloudTrail, Kiro or other similar tools.Experience with DevSecOps (CI/CD, IaC, automated testing) at systems-integration level.Strong analytical/troubleshooting skills in distributed, hybrid environments and clear technical communication skills.Technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers; coordinate technical projects.Optional bullet version for Workday descriptionTranslate HSTF/NCC law enforcement mission requirements into system-level designs and testable requirements in AWS Cloud.Lead end-to-end systems engineering, integration, and verification across cloud and on-prem environments.Develop and maintain system requirements, traceability, Interface Control specifications, architecture diagrams, data flows, test plans, and configuration baselines.Collaborate with the Systems Architect to implement secure, compliant architectures for National Coordination Center services.Plan and execute complex integrations and system-level tests (functional, performance, interoperability, security).Diagnose and resolve multi-system integration issues and support smooth transition to operations.Improve systems engineering processes, documentation, and configuration/tracing practices on the program.
