Posted By: Jon C. on December 01, 2008 BREAKING THE HUDDLE: THE INTEGRATION OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL, an HBO Sports documentary chronicling the integration of college football in the South, premieres exclusively on HBO, Tuesday, December 16 at 10:00 PM ET/PT. The film will focus on the Civil Rights movement of the ‘60s that moved from the streets to the football fields and its profound effect on the racial status quo of college athletics. The one-hour film culminates with the September 1970 game, played in Birmingham, between the University of Southern California, featuring star African-American running back Sam “Bam” Cunningham, and the University of Alabama team of legendary Crimson Tide head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. The Trojans’ win over Alabama symbolized the integration of college football in the South. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
