Military

Posted By: geor rat on July 13, 2005

So...I just got done watching an episode of The Real World: Austin, in which one of the roomates was deployed for a year as a nurse in Iraq. So of course she's all pro-war, etc and gets mad when people talk down on the war. (Ok..I swear I'm getting to the point.) She has a deep patriotic feeling, which I can't level with and never really could, despite 9/11. Part of this i know is because i am aganist blacks in the military. Despite my dad being a member of the marines. So..I just wanna know what do you think?

I really feels ya girl. Im so against the war in Iraq, and even worse hate the fact that our black folks are the main one's serving too. Only due to uncle sam showing all these black kids in there schools that if they just graduate they can get all this money for serving your country. When really black folks done did all the serving, years ago. I hate to say this but it's all about education now for real because the army is the last resort for black people (based off of statistics). The teachers need to really work with these kids, especially math and science if you got that you working with something.

Nicely said, Tawana. I will never put the military down either. We are still an active duty family. Every situation has it's good and bad. All and all the military has been good to us. It has provided an education for my husband, insurance for my children and has even allowed me to be an asset in corporate America by working in my field in several different regions. It's never a good situation when lives are lost, but being against this war and talking down on the military are two totally different things and I will never talk down on the military.
