Know Your History

Know Your History
Posted By: Janet Griffin on August 01, 2009

Hi, I first posted this blog a year ago, Agust 1, 2008. There have been a few major changes in our history. Such as we've elected our first African American male and 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, and his birth date has been recorded as August 4, 1961, in the state of Hawaii, which is one of the 50 states that makes up the United States. However, today since the election of an African American from that state, there are some that claim people born from that state are alien, non American.
As you approach the end of this reading, you'll note that on August 1, 2008, I referred to the president as our future president of the United States. I knew then it was time for change.
Besides the birthday celebration of our current US president, there have and continue to many famous and historical people born in the month of August who have either become famous or have contributed to the uplifting of people of color and human-kind all over the world.
Those of you who are interested in knowing more about Black History, our achievers and their accomlishments can view some of the information contained in the Achievers of Color Famous and Historical Profiles Past and Present encyclopedia, by going to http://theblackmarket.com/achieve.html
The encyclopedia is chronologically arranged by birth dates, from January 1 through December 31. The encyclopedia, in it's entirety contains approximately 4000 achievers of color from our past as well as those currently making endroads to helping people of this country and all over the world have and live a better quality of life.
This month, at the web site you'll read about famous and historical people of color born in August.

There is need of publishing assistance to get the first volume published.
I have been told by the superintendent of schools in my area that teachers were not required to know anything about Black History to get their teacher's certification, therefore to teach Black History on an elemetnary level may not be possible because there are not many who know much about the subject, except on college level. At elementary level is where you have the most opportunity to build love of self, positive character, and self esteem in our young children, so they may resist the temptation of bad influences plaguing our communities of color today as they reach their teen stages of life. We need to help them see academics in the same light they hold sports and rap, or at least help our young black children to become anxious about learning about themselves and the people who made it possible for them to enjoy what they have today.
If you know some university or publishing company that would be interested in taking on this endeavor, please let me know. I've been working this project 14 years, cross referencing information I've come across in books and on Internet for accuracy. Back in the day it was difficult. History and historical figures information was mostly passed down through generations by word of mouth because Blacks were threatened by beatings and possible death if caught learning to read or write, and the same applied to anyone found helping them.
Well, let me get off my soap box and get this out to you all.
Oh before I close, August is the birth month of our future president of the United States, Barack H. Obama, born August 4. For those of you who know him personally, tell him Janet Griffin wishes him a happy birthday. Thank you,Take Care, and GOD BLESS
Janet
