Posted By: John Jamison on August 25, 2009 The Return of Michael Vick: Redemption in the NFL So far, 2009 has not been kind to Michael Vick. He filed for bankruptcy, and it’s an understatement to state that, since his release after serving nearly two years in prison, he is not likely to be welcomed back with open arms. The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback, who fell from grace after he was convicted on charges of illegal dog fighting, faces an uphill battle upon his return to the NFL. Vick not only has to make up for the years that he lost which prevented him from training, he must redeem himself in the eyes of many sports fans who are not as forgiving as those who think he should be given a second chance. This has all been interesting to observe because I am not a big sports fan. Yes, I can occasionally watch portions of football, basketball, golf or tennis games, and that’s the extent of it. While I admit to having a slight preference for tennis, I don’t own any t-shirts, stickers, or other sports paraphernalia. And I’ve never been compelled to shell out hundreds of dollars for game tickets. On the rare occasion that I have extra money, I’d rather splurge on a cute pair of shoes or donate to a worthy charity. But I’ve observed that many sports fans have taken this way too seriously.
