Organizations and Resources for Young Black Girls

Organizations and Resources for Young Black Girls
Posted By: Ms. Thomas on November 21, 2009

Are you a parent with a daughter who needs additional guidance and encouragement? Are you a worker of a community agency that is responsible for helping minority girls with basic social skills? There are numerous organizations and programs in our country seeking enrollment of young African American/black girls, and struggling to fill open slots. Many of these programs are free!

Our girls are finding themselves in critical danger zones. Parents, educators, and social service agencies are throwing in the towel out of frustration. The frustration stems from the fact that they need help. They are having difficulty finding organizations to assist in empowering and equipping these girls with enhanced self-esteem, self-confidence, and the self-love they so desperately need.

Our girls long for structure and supervision. For some, circumstances and misfortune beyond their control leave them in dire need of mentoring programs and organizations that will help them succeed.

The government offers aid and grants to non-profit organizations for the sole purpose of reforming and supporting the lives of at risk youth.

However, government aid is unjustifiable if the programs continue to offer services that are continuously in need of participants.

Assistance is available. Our country cannot afford to leave minority girls to fend for themselves, nor can our country afford to throw money away in unsupported programs. There is a new directory of resources and organizations, which list programs for African American/black girls within the United States.

In addition to the directory, parents and community agencies will find helpful articles, books, and links to positive online websites and magazines geared toward inspiring and empowering African American girls. Websites of the non-profit organizations listed in this directory of girl serving programs contain resources and contact links specifically designed for minority girls. The host of the directory serves as a clearinghouse that seeks to provide valuable information for all interested parties. Finally, the girls who enroll in the programs will receive the much needed attention and activity they need, and the programs will receive the participants whom they seek to serve.
