Stop Sucking 2010!!!!

Stop Sucking 2010!!!!
Posted By: Tujnisia Vinson on January 22, 2010

Ok, so the first month of the new decade hasn't been that great but regardless one has to learn to grin and bear it, so grin and bear it I shall because mom and pops paid WAY to much for this smile. Twenty-one days ago the new decade seemed promising, my girlfriends and I made our new years resolution sitting on the rocks over looking the ocean down in Long Beach. We talked about what we believed to be the best and worst moments of the first nine years of the millennium (and to our surprise no one mentioned witnessing the first black president but someone did bring up the death of MJ) and as we brought in the New Years we were all to giddy to see how this year will be. Twenty-one days ago down in Long Beach watching the fireworks usher in the dawn of a new beginning, all was right with the world, but the world has a funny way of changing that around and life truly does come at you fast, a horrible game of chicken if you ask me.
I spent the first week of 2010 doing what I've been doing since I graduated and moved back to one of the most financially devastated state in the country...California, applying to every job there is for the past six months with no calls or interviews. As the second week of January 2010 began; I was suddenly dismissed from school, I showed up to the first day of my class and found myself not on the roll. The admissions office informed me I should've received a letter but due to the holidays my dismissal letter didn't reach my house until the second day school started. I find it quite interesting that out of fifty people who work in the office not one of them calculated the holidays of Christmas and New Years into the mailing schedule; but I find none of them at fault but I do blame the lack of common sense people tend to be born without now and days. It took me a week to get over the sudden loss of my Graduate Program and my darling optimistic parents shinned light on the situation. “Now you can work on getting a full time job”; lets face it companies don't want part time workers when they can find someone who can work full time and overtime at that.
“Also, why don't you look into a career change and bringing up your GRE score” A career change before you even start your first career...what is the world coming to? (SIDE NOTE: I don't know about you but I worked way to hard and spent so much money for this first degree; I would like to experience a few years in the career I majored in before I change to another!) As for the GRE, the SAT for graduate schools; most of the stuff they test on I haven't seen since freshman year and everyone knows when your in school you tend to empty your mind in order to make room for the new curriculum.

But with the new found time that I had on my hands I took them up on their advice and went to the library to pick up some Mastering The GRE for Dummies and researched the “most likely” top careers for 2010.
By that time the third week of January was on its second day when this jobless, school less women now found herself back on the singles market. Just like the incident with the school I found myself suddenly dismissed; waken to a note in my inbox “I want to break up...call me” there were other words written but those seemed to stand out to me. So call him I did and we talked; after he explained to me what he was feeling (even though he should've have done that with me the night before when he had me on the phone) we agreed we would both be friends. Now some may call me stupid but I feel you just don't let go of someone you've known for six years unless there's a truly good reason. Now I'm not saying I'm not hurt by what happened but I know what it means to have a good friend and because those are so rare to find, I tend to keep all the ones I do find.
So here it is the end of the third week of 2010 and within the first twenty-one days I have become a single, job less, school less women. It's funny how it takes so much time to reach those status but less time to lose them. So feeling down, hurt and like a failure; I uttered the favorite words of the Devil...What's the worse that can happen? And just like that he sent one of his minions to phone my father; my grandfather has been battling cancer and he's not going to win this fight.
What's the worse that can happen? Never under any circumstance utter those words; I don't care how bad it gets, I don't care if you feel like God has forgotten you and your alone in this world. Never let those words fall from your lips; instead get you Fred Hammond, Tye Tribbett, Mary Mary whoever gets you in the mood to get your praise on and do just that. Praise God for all the good in life, for waking you up this morning, for having a roof over head, for your family, for your job...praise him for any thing and everything you can think of. Then start to praise him for getting through all the bad things your experiencing now because with all this happening in my life; it hit me like an anvil falling from the sky...at least I got life. So when you feel lonely, hurt, a failure, there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Praise Him and after you lose your voice I want you to smile; even if the tears are flowing from your eyes you smile the biggest smile you possess, because your situation is not as bad as most and if it is...as long as you keep your faith and your mind on God he will turn it around. I wish you the best in the new year and if your new year has started out like mine...remember there's still eleven more months to go and if you smile through each and everyone of them, I bet you'll have a great year. BE BLESSED!!!
