Matters of the Heart
|
Posted By: Lonzo Lucas II on February 03, 2010 Normally I write articles about political, philosophical, or environmental issues, but a good friend of mine requested a change in topic, so I obliged. This article is dedicated to those who are going through and those who have and still feel the pain. I am going to talk about matters of the heart, specifically long distance relationships. You know before it became that I was so optimistic while holding her in my arms and reassuring her, she was crying, I tried not to, she boarded the bus from our hotel in Ethiopia, Africa the door closed and I watched it drive away and out of sight. Me being a realist by the way, which I totally ignored for the sake of being spared the heart wrenching pain of having to end a wonderful relationship. I told her that if she didn’t give up on me, that I wouldn’t give up on her, sounded good at the time, but realizing that it will be six months before we get to see one other again. After my 12 hour flight back to Seoul, South Korea and a week later as I settle into my teaching job, suddenly a degree of loneliness has set in. It’s like all of my discipline and the words of assurance have gone right out of the window. Suddenly every girl that is showing interest makes me think about how far my love is from me and leads to a sense of frustration that I can do nothing about. It’s not my love’s fault or my own; I blame that damn dastardly being known only as Long Distance. He is responsible for more heartaches, nausea, sleepless nights, tears, and unproductive workdays than any other illness could produce. Prior to my “condition,” I consulted with just about everyone who was or is currently involved in a long distance relationship and their opinions varied from still haven’t gotten over it, to we are still making it work. So, I figured out that my situation had to fit in there somewhere, it was great to know that I wasn’t alone in this struggle, but it still doesn’t make it any easier. Last night I almost lost her, when I mentioned how hard this was, but let her know that I was still committed. It is not going to be easy but I will give it my best, if that is not enough then it just wasn’t meant to be and I will have to take the pain of it all like a man. I pray that I won’t have to though… If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
