May 9th, 2010 at 8:10 pm e During the 1966 State of the Union Address, President Clinton sided with the Republicans in declaring that the “era of big government is over.” That reality left two options for people on “Main Street.” One option was to start or hook up with a multi – national organization if one had the resources and could otherwise afford it. Another option was to be on the receiving end of government outsourcing if you had the means to do so. And finally, a practical option for many of us was to start or become associated with a nonprofit organization, the fastest growth industry. For many individuals, groups and social entrepreneurs with analytical skills and a vision, the nonprofit route was the direction of choice. Nonprofits have the authority to offer contributors tax write offs and they are eligible applicants for many government grant programs. With the sanctions of the IRS, they tend to be an extension of the Federal Government. And with the downsizing of the Federal Government, nonprofits are becoming more and more popular and they are being increasingly relied upon for the delivery of charitable services at the community level.

To become eligible to partner with the Federal Government, you must: (1) have a business structure that has been approved by your local and state governments; (2) have received an IRS Determination Letter; (3) an accounting system in place; (4) be engaged in eligible program initiatives; and (5) have qualified staff and or volunteers available. Once you meet the foregoing thresholds, you may be eligible to receive Federal grant and technical assistance from the Federal Government, individuals and the corporate sector. These resources may be used to address local needs, pay operating costs, staffing, and for professional goods and services provided by people of your choice. http://www.facebook.com/isaiah.sr.1 http://www.empowerment19@irim-3.com http://www.meetup.com/The-Community-Develo... http://twitter.com/nonsoe
