Who Do We Blame

Posted By: ricky brown on June 03, 2010 I first want to send greetings to all on this site from my Lord and savoir Jesus Christ. I have been a law enforcement officer for approximately 20 years in the south. Most of my career I have worked patrol in the inner city by choice. There is nothing more satisfying then walking up to a young black youth showing much love to him and being a positive role model. I have notice within the last several years how the youth in the community have become more pernicious towards law enforcement,adults and life. I have seen a great decline of optimism within the inner city. It was important for me to do some serious study and research. It appears that even black police officers are hated even in the inner city and the drug dealers are more respected. I have heard Afro Americans in the community make more excuses of why the hate the police. I have even heard the drug dealers blame others for their own actions. I have seen Afro American women defend the very brothers that treat them less then human. In my research this is what I have found out, over 90% of black males that are killed are killed by other black males. 70% of prisons across America are filled with black males. 70% of afro american babies are born out of wedlock. A great percentage of these babies never know their father. Crime that is committed in the black community is committed by blacks. When the crime rate is high then the activist comes out blaming the police for not during their job. Once the police aggressively go after the criminals in the community then it becomes a race issue of, (picking on poor black people). If you talk to a great percentage of our young culture they don't have a clue about their history. Afro American history has a very rich heritage. In the inncer city, about time a black youth reaches the age of 13 years old he will have some type of negative contact with the police. I arrested a brother one night for beating up his girlfriend. She had just had twins including the 3 year old they already had. He told me since he was going back to prison, he did not want no parts of his kids. My God did I lay into him. I asked him where is his father, he told me he was in prison. So from generation to generation Who do you blame? I think that many of the problems the AA community faces is from not placing blame where it belongs. Although institutional poverty definitely affects the life prospects of inner city residents, I believe that we are all ultimately responsible for our choices and our destiny. Where the majority of people take an interest in building strong families, creating opportunity for themselves and their children, and acquiring education and knowledge, you'll find strong communities with low crime.
