College is over... Now What?
|
Posted By: Kenneth Watson on January 27, 2011 As the days in college begin to wind down and it becomes time to think of the next steps to take in life, the fork in the road concept never has become so evident. I remember the fear I felt in college, as I would sit in my mentor’s office and try to evaluate what I would do next. The world is full of possibilities, but which one is for me. Looking back, I wish I were more prepared, then more oppurtunities would have been opened to me. I now work in an atmosphere, where it is a company norm to be one-step above the rest. If I had this mind frame as a student, the possibilities would have been endless. Can you imagine all the things you do not know about the professional world? How professional is my resume? What is the proper fit of a business suit? Can business and style coexist at the same time? What are power words that one should use in an interview? How do I properly network? Is it possible to be professional while still staying true to my age and myself? There are many more questions, but now that I have the answers, I can navigate the professional arena with more ease, whether it be a career or furthering my education. As I grow, I want you to grow with me, learning as I learn. Using these skill sets early will assist in being able to compete as a young professional and not a college graduate, because there is a BIG difference! So follow the blog and join this journey with me. Add questions and concerns, and I will answer them. I look forward to navigating through this process alone.
