Gramblinite teaches youth poetry!

Posted By: Pam Osbey on September 23, 2005 Pam Osbey, alum, from Grambling State University, class of 1993, has been a self-described poet since 1987 and only took one poetry class as an undergraduate at Chicago's Columbia College, where she originally discovered her love of the craft. As a undergraduate at Grambling State University she was able to hone her love of poetry and performance as a member of GSU's Choir, Voices of Faith and as a member of Sigma Alpha Iota. After graduating from GSU, she has written four poetry books and been featured at the Harlem Book Fair, Los Angeles Black Book Expo, and received the 2004 Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Award for her work with youth poets in Chicago. As a Teaching Artist in the Chicago Public Schools she has been able to teach poetics at the South Shore School of Entrepreneurship, Charles Wacker Elementary, Ames Middle School, Youth Service Project, Inc. and several other park districts in the area including Austin Town Hall, Hamilton Cultural Center and Marquette Park District. Currently a self-employed teaching artist in the Chicagoland area she is one in high demand. Also as a poet advocate she encourages her youth to publish and performe their work. Several of her students have been highlighted in local and national magazines, received poetry awards, and recorded spoken word CDs.
