Posted By: Eddie Francis on July 26, 2011 New Orleans, La. - The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) recently released a new logo which was designed by Eddie Francis, Director of Public Relations at Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). The GCAC is composed of eight HBCUs--SUNO, Xavier University of Louisiana, Dillard University, Tougaloo College, Fisk University, Talladega College, Philander Smith College, and Edward Waters College. According to Francis, the logo is symbolic of the GCAC and its character. "The five stars represent the five pillars of the (NAIA) Champions of Character program," he said. "The letter A signifies the commitment to our athletes' successful matriculation through college, and the biggest star shows our commitment to Servant Leadership (keeping in mind our particular institutions' connection to their respective communities)." Dr. Thomas Howell, Commissioner of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, said, "I'm proud of the result and will delight in showing it off to commissioners of other conferences". It is no secret that Francis stays busy. Since his arrival at SUNO in October of 2007, he has taken on the University's marketing efforts, he manages campus publications, and also manages SUNO.edu. Francis also shows his affinity for sports by serving as the sports information contact for SUNO Athletics. Francis redesigned all of SUNO's current logos, he redesigned SUNO.edu in 2009, and he recently led the roll-out of SUNO's new marketing slogan--"Dream. Commit. Succeed."
