Posted By: Shauntae Jordan on September 21, 2011 As a woman I feel pressured by various societal standards to attend college, get a job, start a family, be a great worker, and still be me. I definitely could use a dosage of encouragement and motivation. How does one begin to balance themselves in a fast pace society? Tameka, TX As a mother, a graduate, a wife, a entrepreneur and a woman; I certainly have experienced the pressures set forth by society, family, and myself. It never fails you accomplish one goal and there comes another. It is a constant battle to live stressfree and achieve all that you desire. Often times we never truly embrace the moment we are in; thinking more about what is to come. I am not stating that men do not feel these same pressures, but I certainly know as a woman we are responsible for pleasing everyone and becoming everything at the same time. These factors in return create frustration, stress and at times the thought of quitting. The majority of women experience motivation overload taking on too many projects, setting high goals, creating resolutions, and proclaiming that at some point they will care for themselves. This in return creates a neglect in self-care, which creates a home for heart attacks, depression, higher divorce rates and low self-esteem. It is important that you pace yourself. I remember my girlfriend who set out with a goal to run in a 5k race. She was determined that she was up for the challenge! It required that she prepare mentally and physically. In preparation for the run my friend began a schedule of weekly exercise and started following a new diet. This weekly preparation went on for about 8 weeks. I am certain that had she not conditioned her body and mind my friend would not have reached her goal of running in the 5k without collapsing. The key to successfully finishing the race was how she started the race. Had she started the race too fast she would burn out quickly. Although your goal may not be to run a 5k. It is important that you map out a plan, condition your mind, prepare your body and consistently take action. 6 Easy Steps Every Woman Must Have to Gain Success 1. Take a mental assessment to make sure you have what it takes to reach your goal. a. Keep a Journal b. Write down thoughts from past 3-6 months c. Be still for a moment and access your inner feelings 2. What are your goals? (short-term and long-term) a. Be Specific b. Make sure they are measurable c. Attainable d. Realistic e. Target date 3. Exercise: Make sure you take a 30 minute walk daily. When you walk make sure you take the time to enjoy the scenery. Begin to envision accomplishing your goals. Take deep breaths and swing your arms. Also walk with a smile on your face. 4. Condition Your Mind: *Stop being negative* Time is not measured by the human clock. Stop beating yourself down. Remove yourself from negative people (including yourself). Read your bible, motivational quotes, or listen to tapes! 5. Take Action: No results will be achieved if you continue to live in the past. Address past behaviors, situations and attitudes that possibly keep you from obtaining goals. Once you have truly began releasing FEAR and resentment; begin to take action. Don’t try to do everything at one time. The result of that is stress and worry. 6. Create an Achievement List: Anytime I write the words “To Do List” I begin to panic, stress, and abandon the list. By changing the name of the list to ” Achievement List” I already know things will get accomplished. According to the Webster Dictionary definition of ACHIEVEMENT:. 1: the act of achieving : accomplishment. 2. a: a result gained by effort. Efforts=Results=Achievement Once you put in the effort to do something you achieve results. Depending upon how much effort is given determines what you will achieve. Therefore, I challenge you to put effort in your daily actions. Remember to pace yourself! I believe that your success is within you. Sincerely, Coach J "Ignite The Drive Within You!"
