11 Activities College Students Can Do To Beat the Holiday Blues
|
Posted By: Shauntae Jordan on December 14, 2011 I love the Christmas holidays! I, especially loved the holidays when I was in college. I would pack up all my belongings and head home to be with friends and family. I enjoyed most of all not worrying about studying, doing homework, or attending classes. It never failed that after about the third day I was bored out of my mind and tired of hearing my mom tell me what I needed to be doing. As an adult I realize those times were important, and that much of my time could have been doing something more productive on my Christmas vacation. To help you rid the holiday blues and increase Christmas jolly below is a list of recommended activities. These activities will help you stay active, be productive, and increase the joy in someone else life. 1. Volunteer – Doing the Christmas holiday many organizations participate in Toys for Tots! Families who are less fortunate receive toys and clothing for their children. Because the economy is extremely at it worse three times more families are applying for these resources. Companies such as United Way and Toys for Tots have partnered to make Christmas Merry for many families. You can volunteer your time to help wrap gifts, handout the toys, or clean up. 2. Visit a Food Bank- You don’t want to gain weight for the holidays. How about missing a meal to volunteer at a local food bank. 3. Start a blog – Are you passionate about a particular subject, topic, or idea. Start writing a blog this Christmas regarding your passion. This may be just what someone needs to bring cheer. 4. Exercise – Did you gain the Freshmen 15; the extra 15 pounds while in college. Put on your workout gear and take the scenic route around your neighborhood. I am certain that something has changed while you were in school. 5. Work – That is right! Stack up some cash this holiday. There are several stores that have extra hours for part-time help. Next semester is right around the corner. Wouldn’t it be nice to buy your own books this semester. 6. Have Fun – Don’t sit around the house speaking of how bored you are. No one wants to hear it. Schedule some time with your high school friends and cousins to hangout. 7. Attend a Christmas Play – Remember the years your mom wanted you to be baby Jesus or the three Kings. Go to a local theater to check out the Christmas Story. 8. Create Memories- Suggest a time that you and your family can share milk and cookies. 9. Decorate the Christmas tree- This was my favorite time of the year. Hanging Christmas lights with my mom and brother. 10. Have a Merry Christmas! 11. Have a Happy New Year!!!!!
