Clark Atlanta University mourns the death of graduate student in accounting

Posted By: Erika Benton-Martin on May 15, 2012 The Clark Atlanta University family mourns the death of Simone Michelle Watson, a graduate student of accounting, who died Sunday, May 5, 2012. She was to have graduated with the Class of 2012 on May 21. A native of Chicago, Simone was born on August 28, 1989. She graduated with honors from Providence St. Mel School in East Garfield Park, Ill., and was the recipient of the school’s Presidential and Lyons scholarships. She was an excellent student in Clark Atlanta University’s five-year degree program, maintaining a 3.97 GPA in her undergraduate studies and a 4.0 GPA in her graduate-level studies. Simone was active in many campus organizations, among them Alpha Epsilon Lambda, a graduate honor society, the Golden Key International Honour Society and Beta Gamma Sigma, the business student honor society. She also was a member of the National Association of Black Accountants and the National Honors Society of Collegiate Scholars. Simone interned at both the City of Chicago’s Finance Department and Wells Fargo, was in great demand as a tutor, and even found time to work as a Salvation Army camp counselor over several summers. Her plans were to pursue a CPA, then return to school to earn a doctorate. Simone embodied the ideal of realizing tomorrow’s promise by pursuing today’s opportunity. She is survived by her mother, Cassandra; her father, Raynard, Sr.; a sister, Tiffany; and four brothers, Raynard, Aaron, Brian and Brandon.
