Rev. Sekinah Hamlin - Bennett College for Women

Posted By: latoya taylor on November 02, 2012 Rev. Hamlin is a native of Charlotte, NC and now resides in Greensboro, NC. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bennett College for Women and a Master of Arts Degree from Howard University both in Political Science. She earned a Master of Divinity degree from Duke University Divinity School. She is also a Cornell University Certified Diversity Professional. Rev. Hamlin has a true love for God's Church. She has worked directly with churches in the Progressive National Baptist, United Methodist, Presbyterian, and Church of God in Christ traditions. She was a member of the Official Delegation of Historically African American Churches to the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) in Yaounde, Cameroon and also served as a moderator and respondent for the plenary session entitled, "Africa and Democratization: A Comparative Look at African and African American Civil Society". She works with the ecumenical church in North Carolina through her service to the NC Council of Churches. She was the First African American female and youngest person to serve as President of the organization that encompasses 16 judicatories/denominations and eight individual congregations as members. She is also a member of the Council's Administrative Committee, Legislative Committee, and the Strategic Planning Committee. Rev. Hamlin holds professional memberships in the American Academy of Religion, National Association of Multicultural Education, and Phi Delta Kappa Professional Education Fraternity. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Affirmative Action Register. In the Greater Greensboro Community, she is a member of the Greensboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, Impact Greensboro Board, and a former member of the Greensboro Human Relations Commission. She is also a Diamond Life member of the Sorority. She is a member of the NAACP, Howard University National Alumni Association and a lifetime member of the Bennett College National Alumnae Association. She received the Young Alumnae Award for her service to the Bennett College National Alumnae Association. She has also received a Belle Ringer Image Award from Bennett College for her achievements. She remains active with anti-racism organizing in Greensboro and works with the Leadership Empowerment Institute to facilitate anti-racism workshops. Rev. Hamlin is an ordained Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) tradition. Most recently she served as Director of Multicultural Education at Guilford College. She is currently the Minister of Anti-racism and Reconciliation for the Southeast Regions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the US and Canada. The regional partners include; Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama-Northwest Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Florida. Rev. Hamlin is married to Rev. Dr. Jack Sullivan, Jr., Pastor of Fifth Christian Church in Cleveland, OH and President of the Black Ministers' Fellowship of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
