Speaking at your university

Posted By: David Sylvester on November 02, 2005 My name is David Sylvester and I am the 1st, and only, African American to cross 2 continents on a bicycle, doing this feat is really no big deal but why I did it is. I did it because a good friend of mine, Kevin Bowser, was killed on September 11th. There was a scholarship fund started in his honor and to raise funds and awareness for this charity I rode my bike across the USA. I gained so much from this, emotionally and spiritually, that I wanted to do more so I entered a race that took me from Cairo, Egypt to Cape Town, South Africa, over 7000 miles! Since 9/11 I have biked over 12,500 miles in 15 states through 13 countries in 2 continents and on 2 bikes (one road and one mountain). My goal is to now traverse the remaining continents within 5 years, with South America being next in June ‘06! I think that my story and cause is a compelling one that touches on many issues: Health Travel Will power Community Personal motivation The use of the word “nigger” by Africans Charity Passion The AIDS crisis As well as the power of friendship My story is documented on my website, www.contribute2org, countless print publications and a short documentary I made will be screened at the prestigious Los Angeles and Las Vegas film festivals early next year. I have spoken at schools, businesses and universities all over the world and am posting here to see if there would be any interest in bringing me in to speak to the student body. Please contact me at the email address and phone number below if interested.
