Amikka Smith - Bennett College for Women

Known by her family as the talkative child, she took an interest in communications as she matriculated through grade school and high school. She attended Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, N.C., majoring in mass communications. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in May 2009 and wanted to further her education in journalism. She attended graduate school at Columbia University, and received a Master of Science degree in Journalism. Soon, she graduated from Columbia and immediately started freelancing for Yahoo.com as a field reporter in the Detroit area. Her work has been seen throughout the United States and has had international reach as far as Italy and Japan. Currently, Amikka is a Anchor/Reporter for Black Network Television's program, Our News in Greensboro, NC reporting on local, national and international stories. It is her goal to continue to pursue a career as a community affairs correspondent reporting primarily on social policy and social justice issues.
