Social Innvoation Challenge

Social Innvoation Challenge
Posted By: Tyrone Brackens Brackens on July 22, 2013

Submission begins at 9:00am EST on September 13, 2013, and will end at 5:00pm EST on October 13, 2013. Register online at tavistalks.com/socialinnovator and submit a 2 to 3 page executive summary and video (not to exceed 3 minutes) of your project and target impact area. Anyone can enter the competition and only those who enter can qualify for the final competition. Select entrants from the Executive Summary and Video Pitch Competition will also be invited to compete in the Finals Competition where they will make a final business plan presentation to a judging panel of seasoned veterans and experts from the startup venture community.

Questions to be Answered by the Executive Summary and Video
Each Executive Summary and Video must answer the following questions in a three-minute video presentation:
1. Target: What area does your solution target? For example, if Water Management and Conservations, what site does your solution target? What specific aspect of that building/site’s water supply, use, or discharge, or trash generation is addressed? (Multiple buildings/sites may be targeted.)
2. Method: How would you improve target area? For example, if Water Management, how would you improve the targeted building/site’s water supply, use, or discharge, or trash generation? Describe the technology that you would use to make the improvement(s), including, as appropriate, the role of people who manage, work in, and use the building or site.
3.

Local Impact: Based on your best estimates, what would be the cost of implementing your solution, and what would be its quantitative benefits (in terms of dollars or some other measure) during one year of implementation? For example, if Water Management, how much money would be saved if you redirected 100,000 gallons of misused water for garden filtration in a geographic area?
4. Broader Impact: How far-reaching is your solution? For example, if Water Management, why does wiser water use matter for our nation and the world?

Selection Process

The selection process begins upon receipt of the applications on Friday, September 13, 2013, and is detailed below:

•Wednesday, October 13, 2013: Applications are due by 5:00pm EST.
•September 13 – October 13: Selection committee members, comprised of a diverse range of individuals representing academia, business, community/grassroots, government, nonprofit, and technology will read and score the applications for each target impact area and attend conference calls to select the finalists.
•Early November: Finalists participate in interviews.
•Mid-November-mid-December: The team will perform due diligence on the interviewed individuals/organizations.
•Early January: The 2013 TS/UM Social Innovators will be notified of their selection and posted to the website.

Deadline

Applications will be accepted beginning September 13, at 9:00am EST and end on October 13, at 5:00pm EST.
