CREATOR OF BET’s “REED BETWEEN THE LINES” AND HOWARD UNIVERSTIY ALUM CREATES A FILM PROJECT TO BE WRITTEN BY, DIRECTE
|
Posted By: Stacey Alphonso on July 17, 2014 Los Angeles, CA- July 17, 2014- “I’m So Glad I Go to Howard U” is a familiar tune heard on the campus of Howard University at every Bison football game; now there is another reason to shout it. Howard University alum, Kellie R. Griffin, creator of BET’s “Reed Between the Lines,” is seeking screenplays for consideration for her next big thing, and only individuals who attend(ed) the university are eligible. “For years I’ve wanted to produce a feature film written by, directed by, and of course starring Howard Alum,”Kellie muses. “Just think how cool it would be to see Anthony Anderson, Taraji P. Henson, Phylicia Rashad,Lance Gross, Wendy Davis, Laz Alonso, Debbie Allen, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Marlon Wayans, Karen MalinaWhite, or any of the many other powerful HU alumni actors and actresses in the same film?” And, what would such an undertaking be called? “The Kellie R. Griffin Bison Project”--Open to current Howard University students and alumni alike who attended full-time for at least one year (two consecutive semesters). Kellie, who earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Masters degree in Social Work--both from Howard University--made a huge career change by entering into the world of entertainment. Shortly thereafter, Kellie became the Head Writer and Associate Producer for Tyler Perry’s “House of Payne,” running two writers’ rooms in Los Angeles and Atlanta, simultaneously. And a few years later, Kellie created “Reed Between the Lines,” starring Tracee Ellis Ross and Malcolm-Jamal Warner, which ran for two seasons on BET. Looking back at her own success story she explains, “You never know what will happen in this business. There’s no formula to it. But it is my hope that the selected screenplay for “Bison Project” will get a worldwide distribution deal and/or sold as a TV series, because I truly believe with a solid script and great talent, anything is possible! And at the very least, the finalist will be granted meetings with several high standing industry execs -- All Howard alumni, of course!” “The Bison Project” is gearing up to start taking submissions by August 4, 2014. Expect more information within the next few weeks.
