Howard Law Graduate Alice T. Crowe Launches Stage Play at Griot's Festival NYC

Crowe at the Robert Moss Theater at 440 Studios 440 Lafayette Street New York, NY February 5, at 9:00 pm. February 7, at 2 pm and February 8 at 7 pm. Tickets are $20 cash only at the door. The Workshop is part of the Griot’s Theater Festival 2015. The play is produced by A Crowe Flyz Productions. An angry poet struggles to keep his work relevant in “The Age of Obama.” The Workshop explores the wide range of conflicting social and political ideas within the African American community, it also shows the unlimited potential of African Americans to sit down at the table with heavy manners and have a conversation. This play the workshop is poignant witty extraordinary funny drama about the African American experience to define black identity, process social and political events as they play out in a writer’s workshop in an artist’s café. After graduating from Howard University School of law, Crowe joined the Louis Reyes Rivera Writer’s Workshop at Sista’s Place in Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn. She trekked to Brooklyn twice a month for eight years to study the craft of writing with Rivera, a noted poet, essayist, editor, and educator. Rivera, co-founder of the Nuyorican Poets Café, assisted in the publication of well over 200 books, over the past 40 years, including her twin sister Alicia Crowe’s book, “Real Dads Stand Up.” Rivera also appeared on the Peabody award-winning HBO show, “Def Poetry Jam.” Alice Crowe began writing The Workshop in 2009, as a member of the Frank Silvera Writer’s Workshop led by the late Garland Lee Thompson, Sr. in Harlem. Crowe cultivated her love for black theater and gained experience working with a diverse group of playwrights. The cast of the play are a group of New York actors. Jim Willis, as George, Brenda Pettit, as Queenie, Tiffany C. Williams as Phoenix, Steve Allen, as Supa Dome, Allen Jenkins, as Sage, Myriam Moss, as Sarah and a Jazz vocalist, Alicia Crowe, Alice’s identical twin sister.
