The Holidays, Bah Humbug!!!
|
Posted By: Paula Stotts on December 27, 2005 Anyone else agree that the holidays can be more than they're worth? Don't get me wrong, I realize that Jesus is the reason for the season, and I'm grateful for that. But the holidays are super stressful, and depressing for many!! After the political BS at work about who to give gifts to (which impacted my budget heavily) and the drama associated with family/friends and gift exchanges, WHO NEEDS THE STRESS??? Next year, my gift giving is going to be at a bare minimum. Better yet, since I love to cook, I think all my gifts are going to be food related. Fudge, homemade candies, cookies, and cakes. But making cakes and such from scratch can become a bit expensive, too. *sigh* Aside from all that, there was some family drama that transpired while I was in Arkansas visiting my family. I JUST DON'T NEED IT IN MY LIFE!!! Anyway, on a more positive note, while I was in Arkansas, I met a nice young man, who was a breath of fresh air. We spent a little time together, and he just seemed to have a kind spirit. Full of life. Trying to see good in other people. Looking for ways to have fun, enjoy life, and not take it so seriously. Learning ways to have fun while handling his business. Even though I think nothing serious will ever come of it (he lives in Texas), it was just refreshing to meet someone who seemed genuine, laid-back, and sincere. Did I mention that he was sexy? I think the older I get, the more dating becomes a big game to some. A tapdance and a walk on eggshells. People impose all these dayum rules behind dating. Who makes all these people who give advice on dating the authority on dating anyway? That's why there's all this confusion between males and females now. Don't call the first day. Don't make yourself too available. Don't wear this on the first date. Don't call him until he calls you. Don't let him be able to reach you all the time. Don't give him some until 3 dates. Don't do this. Don't do that. Blah Blah Blah. Yadda Yadda Yadda. Frankly, I'm sick of other people's advice (especially unsolicited) on dating. I think part of my problem is that I am always listening to the unsolicited advice that others give me, whether it be my life, my career, the dating scene, whatever. I have decided that I'm gonna do what I want to do in '06, dayum what everyone else says!!! That will be one of my New Year's resolutions. My other New Year's resolutions: * Continued work on financial improvement * Career Improvement * Going to church more and working on my spiritual self * Lose the remaining 30 lbs I did not lose this year * Working on improving friendships and expanding my friend network Well, that's enough for today. I think I'm gonna go clean my house, which will help me to clear my mind. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |

I feel you about the "holidays". It is so stressful to try and pick out the right gifts for everybody. Next year, I am going to get one gift for each person that is close to me. I love the holiday season because Jesus was born but far as the gift giving...Bah Humbug!
