Posted By: KYLE EDWARDS on June 29, 2015 Have you heard about "Black in China 黑人 在 中国" YouTube web series? If not it is a series that documents the lives of 39 western Black expatriates living in the People's Republic of China. The series is the brain child of Bowie State University alumnus (c/o 2010) Kwame Ismail. The show is different from other vlogs and YouTube videos in that it allows you to immerse yourself in the experience of multiple people simultaneously and see themes about what it is like to be a Black expat in China. Their professions range from professional athlete, to graphic artists, to educators, to actors, to entertainers, to news correspondents, and others. Some of the participants from season one are HBCU alums representing Spelman College, Morehouse College, Howard University, Morgan State University, Florida A&M University, Clark Atlanta University, and Hampton University. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4g... "The series serves as an example that the possibilities are endless for the Black people. The United States isn't only place where we can be successful productive individuals and with the current overt negative racial climate of the United States, it's about time we start encouraging our current and future generations to seek less perilous non traditional avenues for post graduation." - Kwame Ismail. Ismail says he plans to head back to China this September to film and that season two will be available in last January 2016. Season two will feature a more diverse cast in terms of profession and locations. Ismail said that he will feature less straight forward interviews and more profiles of people actively interacting with their environment. He is currently crowd sourcing to make season two "more professional and less guerrilla" as he puts it. For season two he is going to team up with videographer and Shaw University alumnus (c/o 2009) Marcus Long.
