Food Safety Program Seeking M.S. or Ph.D. Student to Conduct Fruit and Vegetable Extension - ISU

Posted By: Shannon Coleman on February 18, 2016 Title: Food Safety Produce PhD or MS Graduate Research Assistant Institution: Iowa State University Employing Department: Food Science and Human Nutrition Appointment Conditions: Full time graduate student Proposed Start Date: August 2016 (May 2016 is a possibility if qualified) Job Description: The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Iowa State University invites applications for a Food Safety/Microbiology PhD or MS Graduate Research Assistant position to assist with fruit and vegetable extension program and research under Dr. Angela Shaw. The successful candidate will requires excellent communication skills (speaking and writing) along with the ability to communicate and interact with a wide variety of clients including students, fellow faculty members and staff, extension professionals and other interested citizens. Required Qualifications: Bachelor or Masters degree in Food Science, Food Microbiology or a closely aligned disciple by the appointment start date. Official academic transcripts from each college or university currently or previously attended. (Official transcripts from Iowa State University are not required.) Three letters of recommendation from faculty members and/or employers acquainted with the qualifications that would make the applicant a successful graduate student Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores (verbal, quantitative and analytical writing), minimum requirements: o Before August 1, 2011: Verbal - 400, quantitative - 500, analytical writing - 3.5 o After August 1, 2011: Verbal - 146, quantitative - 144, analytical writing - 3.5 Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Required for non-native English speakers. Minimum requirements: Paper-based - 550, computer-based - 213, internet-based 79 NOTE: If these standards are not met, prior peer- reviewed journal publishing and/or food industry experience is needed Preferred Qualifications: Desire for a career in extension or academia. Experience that demonstrates excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Prior fruit and vegetable production experience. Salary: Full Graduate Assistantship Provided Special Conditions: All offers of employment, oral and written, are contingent upon the university's verification of credentials and other information required by federal and state law, ISU policies/procedures, and may include the completion of a background check.
