Lakil Mason, Miss Morris College

Posted By: Hija Chang on January 18, 2017

Hometown: Atlanta, GA

Year in School: Senior

Major/Minor: Biology/Health Science

Expected Graduation: 2016

Extracurricular Activities: I am proud member of the Nu Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I am also a member of several athletics at Morris College including the Lady Hornets Volleyball Team, Softball Team, Cross Country Team, and Basketball Team. I am also a student leader, a student ambassador, and a member of the Student Government Association. I am a part of the National Council of Negro Women and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Leisure Activities: In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, listening to music, spending time with friends and family, working out, playing sports, shopping, watching movies, traveling, cleaning and taking pictures in a professional setting.

Career Goals: My career goal is to become a certified personal trainer, physical therapist as well as a nutritionist.

What is your most memorable contribution as a Campus Queen?: My platform is to “Promote Positivity, Acknowledge our Principles, and Sharpen our Perspectives"". Since being crowned as Miss Morris College, I have been able to revive the school spirit of my HBCU by creating a positive atmosphere, hosting lively events and also being the last Miss Morris College under the longest serving president in the state of South Carolina, Dr. Luns C. Richardson. It is a good feeling to be admired by your peers and be able to influence others to do their very best. I take pride in my HBCU and encourage others to do the same. I feel like I am contributing to the longevity of my school by creating students who are invested in the institution and will eventually become active alumni. Going forward in my reign as Miss Morris College, I plan to emphasize on women empowerment. As women, not only should we recognize our worth but we should understand the power that we have as women. Furthermore, we need to learn how to build our confidence and sustain our self- esteem.
