Benedict Outlasts Morehouse In Four Overtimes

Posted By: Hija Chang on February 07, 2017 Brandon Morris scored seven of his game-high 36 points in the fourth overtime as the Benedict College Tigers edged Morehouse College 120-117 in a four-overtime thriller on Thursday night in Forbes Arena. Morehouse's Omar Alston hit two free throws with seven seconds left at the end of regulation to tie the game at 72 and send the contest into overtime. The Tigers had a four-point lead, 85-81, with 37 seconds left in the first overtime, but Morehouse's Jordan Wallace hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 87 and send it into a second overtime period. Morris gave Benedict a two-point lead, 98-96, with 20 seconds left in the second overtime, but Morehouse's Michael Olmert tied the game once again with a layup with nine seconds remaining. In the third overtime, Morris hit one of two free throws with four seconds left to tie the game at 105. The Tigers scored the first two baskets in the fourth overtime on layups by Kel Robin and Morris. Another layup by Robin gave the Tigers a 115-110 lead with just over a minute left in the fourth extra period and Benedict sealed the win by hitting five of six free throws in the final minute. Benedict improves to 12-9 overall and 9-3 in the SIAC. Morehouse falls to 11-8 overall and 5-6 in the SIAC. Morris had a double-double with 19 rebounds to go along with his 36 points. Quayshun Hawkins added 28 points. Umar Frost scored 14 points, while Christopher Spencer contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Robin also had 12 points and Tyoun Shuford chipped in 11 points.
