From time to time there will be an article written on trends concerning the resume, as well as articles pertaining to resumes and interviews. Which resume format does one use when choosing a resume? Why do you choose a certain format one over the other? This will be a series of articles over the different types of resume, because every person's situation is different. The first and most common one to use is the Chronological Resume. The main feature of a Chronological resume is that it presents all or most of the jobs a person has had, in detail and in chronological order. For most people whose careers proceed in a linear, progressive manner, a Chronological format is best. Most people’s careers progress into a Chronological resume. This shows an employer that you are someone who has been groomed for the job. It also shows you are focused and you know what you want and how to arrive in getting there. This resume format works well, if you have received a recent promotion with the same company. The format for a Chronological Resume format looks like this: Branded Job Title Headline Executive Summary Key Skills Work Experience Education What are the rules when you don’t use a Chronological Resume? Here are instances when a Chronological resume doesn’t work: 1. Unemployment for more than a year; and you have taken a lesser position 2. Career change 3. Recent college graduate 4. Gap in employment; you took off to take care of an ailing family member or you chose to be a stay at home parent; disability 5. Sickness that you encountered yourself If any of these reasons apply to you, then a Chronological Resume is not the format you want to use.
