Cougars Race at the 4th Annual Tom Farrell Classic, Sprinters Miller and Metelus Lead the Way

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on May 09, 2017 The Medgar Evers men's and women's track and field teams were back in action this past weekend as they traveled to Queens for the 4th Annual Tom Farrell Classic hosted by St. John's University. The Cougars were led by sprinters senior Sciancia Metelus (Petionville, Haiti) and junior Keyanna Miller (Queens, N.Y.), both of whom had two top 10 finishes on the day. For the Lady Cougars, Metelus and Miller had the best performances on the day. Metelus finished in 5th place in a time of 12.36. She also won her heat beating out competition from division II Queens College and division I St. John's. Her other top 10 finish came in the 200 meters where she finished 10th in a time of 26.20 seconds, right behind her teammate Keyanna Miller. Miller had an impressive day as she came in 9th overall with a time of 26.03 seconds. She also defeated some tough competition finishing second in her heat. Her other individual performance was the 400 meters as she came in 7th overall and 1st in her heat with a sub 60 second time of 59.56 seconds. One of the two 4x100 meter relay teams finished second overall behind winning Queens College. The team consisted of senior Metelus, junior Miller, sophomore Rashel Anderson (Queens, N.Y.) and freshman Maureesha Stewart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) as they finished in 50.38 seconds. On the men's side, senior Jamal Chance (Gouyave, Grenada) finished 6th overall in the long jump with his best jump of 40'8.75" inches. It was also the best jump among all four-year schools at the meet.
