Open Mic Night

Open Mic Night
Posted By: Traci T. on April 06, 2005

What's up y'all! In case you haven't noticed by now, I love poetry and I hope you are enjoying my poems. Here's one I wrote about music. I was listening to Alicia Keys, she has such a beautiful voice. Whatever song it was inspired me to write about music because I love it as much as I love writing itself. I had never written a poem for music, so that's what I did. Each stanza is about a different type of music and I even incorporated some song titles in there. I have eclectic taste when it comes to music so I included Hip Hop, Jazz, R&B, and Blues. But on the other hand it's in the perspective of music as a person, like Alicia being R&B instead of just singing it. And that's what's up.

MY MUSIC MY RELEASE
they dance across the keys
slender fingers with ease
producing hits from all degrees
for me, that's my release

she's musically inclined
lyrically literally redefined
the rhythm and blues of our time
and today, she's my release

spittin' sixteens into the mic
of the rich's wrongs and the poor's right
to learn and live a better life
his message holds my release

he's musically advanced
taught us to break dance and wave our hands
who opened the doors and gave lyricists a chance
he will always be my release

a fat bassline so smooth it can't miss
the melodies of memories' bliss
a sexy sax makes you relax and reminisce
sentimentally, that's my release

he's music classically
what late nights were and big bands used to be
zoot suits, fingerwaves, and the speak easy
that's my release

it don't mean a thing if it aint swing
with a solitary songstress to sing
of the heart makes and breaks life can bring
late at night, thats my release

she's music truly
her soulful voice goes through me
journeys with me slowly, but surely
on gloomy sundays, that's my release

he makes my rims vibrate in the summertime
when im heated, he's my cool breeze
she helps me relax and unwind
whenever i need her, she's my release

Please feel free to tell me what you think, I can't get better unless I get some constructive criticism. I've been writing since the first grade, so that's roughly eleven years. But you can always get better. God Bless.
